My name is Chris and I have a confession: I really like Shangri-La Hotels. I don’t know why. Maybe I was a magpie in a past life and their shiny chandeliers appeal to me on some deep, sub-conscious level. Whatever the reason may be, I’m a fan of the way they do things.
So far I’ve stayed at the Island Shangri-La Hong Kong, the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, Shangri-La Hotel Haikou, and the Shangri-La Golden Sands. Could it be time to cross a fifth Shangri-La off my list?
With the opening of the new Shangri-La Hotel, Ulaanbaatar, it could be…. but it might take time.
First I need to work out how to get myself to Mongolia… It’s not exactly the sort of place you can get to by sticking your thumb out on the highway with a cardboard sign saying ‘Take me to Mongolia :-)’.
Until I get those finer details worked out, I’ll just had to settle with viewing photos instead.
The 290-room hotel is the latest in a string of luxury hotels to arrive in Ulaanbaatar. Located within walking distance to Government House and the Great Chinggis Khan Square, it’s a central base for you to explore the country’s picturesque steppes, historic monasteries and legendary grasslands.
